Blue Diamond Fillups, formed in 2008 as a foot stomping, roots rocking, Americana based Rockabilly band.
Blue Diamond’s front man and vocalist, Michigan born Flash Ricketts has an eclectic background, having formed in heavy rock and country bands, as well as his own early Elvis show band, “Little Elvis and the Memphis Mafia,” which performed in Nashville’s prestigious Grand Ole Opry. It’s hard not to focus on Flash when the band performs. His voice is catchy and Flash captures the spirit of rock and blues effortlessly. This guy was born a star! Oakland born guitarist Jonnie Zaentz has more than a decade’s worth of history playing and touring the country. Zaentz’s vision was to have a band that would perform traditional rockabilly music in addition to incorporating a more original, raw and aggressive edge into their sound, which is evident in his playing. The line-up also includes New York raised; Berkeley based Ryan Lukas, who upholds the Bass playing duties for Blue Diamond Fillups. Lukas’ talents are unlike any current bass players on the circuit. His sound is so stylized that it would be a pleasure to listen to him outside the context of a band. Lukas brings a lot of vertebrae to the backbone of the band. Fillups’ rhythm section would not be complete without drummer, Mark Viada. Hailing from the East Bay, Viada, who played in a former band with guitarist, Zaentz, had already established a solid connection musically with the concept of the band. His drumming is solid and tasty. Together, Viada and Lukas provide a solid, addicting backbeat which excites any and all ears. All of the members of Blue Diamond Fillups were influenced by artists such as “The King” (Elvis), Ronnie Dawson, Johnny Cash and Brian Setzer, to mention a few.
