The American Indian Film Institute celebrated the spirit and life of Floyd Red Crow Westerman with a special film tribute entitled "Remembering Floyd Red Crow Westerman (1936-2007)". Presented November 13 at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco the evening also featured a musical tribute directed by songwriter/performer Keith Secola and hosted by comedian Charlie Hill and actor Max Gail.
Westerman was an accomplished singer/songwriter whose 1969 debut album "Custer Died for Your Sins" earned critical acclaim. A human rights activist, he has toured the globe with Sting on a speaking tour about the destruction of the rain forest and its native peoples.
Floyd also received worldwide attention and acclaim for his performance as Ten Bears in the Oscar-winning film "Dances with Wolves". He also performed hundreds of concerts, appearing with, among others, Willie Nelson, Don Henley, Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell and Kris Kristofferson. |
