Prior to being an actor Max was a musician, and it was his songwriting that led, through Buffy Saint Marie, to meeting Dennis Banks, Floyd Westerman and others again in San Francisco a few years later.
At that time, Max was a regular in the Barney Miller TV comedy. His acting, songwriting and social/environmental activism have continued to be inspired and guided by the insights and relationships that grew from those times. In the early nineties he became interested in the potential for the Internet to help create a liveable future for future generations. You can learn more at www.lap.org.

SAN FRANCISCO TAIKO DOJO (a Red Hot event favorite)
The history of Taiko is interwoven in the fabric of Japanese history. Regarded as sacred since ancient times, the drum was first used to drive away evil spirits and pests harmful to crops. It was believed that by imitating the sound of thunder, the spirit of rain would be forced into action. At harvest time, Taiko was joyfully played in thanks for a bountiful crop.
In the last decade, Taiko enthusiasts, Seiichi Tanaka and the San Francisco Taiko Dojo have redeveloped Taiko from its primitive folk art roots to a powerful, sophisticated synthesis of rhythm, harmony, and body movement. Today, it is a rigorous mental, physical, and martial arts training combined with musical talent to form a unique, resonant style. www.sftaiko.com/index.html
Red Hot would like to THANK ALL the participating artists and look forward to amazing and moving performances on Aug 7th!
